Deven Sawhney, along with two other youth team graduates – CVL Remtluanga and Akshunna Tyagi made it to the Odisha FC senior team ahead of the upcoming eighth season of the Hero Indian Super League. Deven performed well for the youth team in the past and had great time training at the Aspire Academy, Doha as a part of the Club’s partnership with the academy then. The Delhi youngster opened up regarding his love for the sport and much more during an interview with the OFC Media Team. Here are the excerpts:

Love for football

Deven:
Like almost every single Indian, I was easily attracted to cricket in my childhood and I was a decent player as well. There was one day when I saw my neighbor practicing football and that’s when I knew that football and I are made for each other.

Childhood role model

Deven:
With both my father – Ashish Sawhney and grandfather – NC Sawhney being national and international level sportsmen in badminton and rugby, I had my role model right inside my home. My neighbor – Rishab Kapur, who got me attached to football, was also my mentor and he guided me in the initial years as well.

Biggest inspiration

Deven:
I think the biggest inspiration for me will have to be my parents and my grandfather. I think it’s all in-house for me. My father takes care of my sports, training etc; my mom always looks into my diet and studies. My dad and I run together, we play badminton together. I like to cook sometimes with my mom.

Other Sports he follows

Deven:
I like to play badminton and I cycle a lot. I think badminton also came to me in my genes from both my father and grandfather and I am quite decent at it too. My father and I go on runs together sometimes. It’s fun.

Aim and aspirations

Deven:
Currently, my aim is to be a force to reckon with in the Odisha FC senior team. Later, I hope to be a part of the Indian National Team and also become a recognized name worldwide.

The biggest moment of his career so far

Deven:
The biggest moment for me would be when I was sent to train at the Aspire Academy. That for me, was probably the best thing that could have happened. That improved my game immensely
