Odisha FC get off the mark in the ISL 2024-25 season
Odisha FC opened their account in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC at the Kalinga Stadium on Saturday.
The goals from Diego Mauricio and Mourtada Fall ensured the Kalinga Warriors left the ground with all three points, despite a second-half own goal by the Senegalese defender to give the visitors some hope.
From the outset, Odisha FC showcased their intent, pressing Jamshedpur’s defense and forcing them into retreat. The early pressure paid off when Diego found the back of the net following a slick combination play involving Isak and Hugo in the 20th minute. The Brazilian forward’s powerful left-footed finish gave Odisha the lead, showing the intensity early on in the game.
Amey Ranawade was a standout performer even though he missed a golden opportunity when he was left unmarked in the box for a clean header. Albino Gomes, the Jamshedpur keeper was kept busy throughout the game, and denied Diego with a crucial save. However, Odisha’s persistence paid off just before the break, as Fall powered in a header from Hugo's delivery from the corner, sending the team into the half-time break with a comfortable two-goal advantage.
In the second half, Jamshedpur pushed for a comeback, and a misjudged header by Fall when defending a corner resulted in an own goal, making it 2-1. Despite the setback, Odisha stayed in control, with Puitea and Amey continuing to pose a threat.
The closing moments were no less dramatic, as Jamshedpur had two late chances to equalize, but close-range efforts from Sanan and former Odisha FC winger Aniket Jadhav were squandered. FT: OFC 2-1 JFC

With three important points in the bag, Odisha FC will shift focus to the visitors, Kerala Blasters FC on Thursday, 3 October 2024, at 7:30 PM IST at the Kalinga Stadium.
