Odisha FC, Kickstart FC share spoils in Kalinga draw
Odisha FC hosted Kickstart FC at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, looking for three points amid a winless run in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2024-25, on Tuesday. However, the team had to settle for a point following a 2-2 draw. Lynda Kom (45') and Jennifer (78') scored for the Kalinga warriors.
Both teams started the match with an attacking tempo, looking for an early advantage. In the 21st minute, Pyari’s long-range attempt from the right was comfortably collected by the travelling keeper. Five minutes later, Jennifer's effort from the edge of the box deflected off a defender. Malati made an important sliding tackle in the 38th minute to thwart a dangerous counter on the right flank.
The hosts broke the deadlock just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Jennifer sent in an inch-perfect cross into the box, and Lynda Kom, finding space, headed it into the corner to give Odisha FC a 1-0 lead.
Kickstart FC responded quickly in the second half with a quick turnaround. The visitors equalised in the 52nd minute, and found the net just two minutes later to make it 2-1 and leave the hosts sweating.
Odisha FC pushed forward in the 70th minute, creating several chances, but failed to convert with most of the shots off target.
The pressure paid off finally in the 78th minute, when Jennifer brought Odisha FC back into the match. A well-timed counterattack from midfield found Jennifer, who calmly slotted the ball past the Kickstart goalkeeper with a delicate toe-poke to make it 2-2 and give a lifeline to the hosts.
Despite a few more chances for both teams in extra time, neither side could find a winner.
Odisha FC will host Hops FC next at Bhubaneswar on 6th April 2025, with three matches remaining in the season.
