Odisha FC Women's Late Collapse Sees Nita FA Take Derby Spoils
Odisha FC faced a stunning 2-1 defeat to Nita FA in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) on Friday. Despite their best efforts, Odisha FC couldn’t hold onto its early lead. A flash of brilliance from youngster Neha Sillay in the 16th minute gave the Kalinga Warriors their only goal of the match.
Odisha FC Women started their game with high intensity. In the 8th minute, Kashmina attempted a long-range shot that was well saved. The Kalinga Warriors didn’t have to wait too long to find the back of the net, as in the 16th minute, Neha unleashed a powerful shot from distance that gave Odisha FCW the lead.
As the match progressed, Odisha continued to dominate. In the 27th minute, Pyari fired a low-driven shot that was saved, while in the 36th minute, Anshika saved OFC's blushes when NITA FA fired a powerful shot on target. Before halftime, Odisha FCW created several chances to double their advantage. In the 39th minute, Pyari struck again from outside the box, but her shot was just inches away from finding the target, leaving the score at 1-0 as the teams headed into the break.
The second half saw the comeback NITA FA were hoping for, with the equaliser coming in the 72nd minute. The game turned on its head when just three minutes later, NITA FA stunned Odisha FCW by taking the lead with another quick strike. With time running out, Odisha FCW pushed to save a point and almost got one back in the 90th minute when Kiran took a shot from a distance, but it went straight into the hands of the keeper goalkeeper, as NITA FA held on to take the derby spoils.
With their hopes fading for the title, Odisha FCW will travel to Chennai to face Sethu FC on 27th March, aiming to maintain their position in the top half of the table.
