Odisha FC Maintains Winning Streak with 2-1 Victory Over Sribhumi FC in IWL
The Kalinga Warriors extended their winning streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sribhumi FC in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2024-25 on Saturday at the Barrackpore Stadium. Goals from Jennifer (40’) and Lynda (81’) secured the win for the Odisha FC Women’s Team.
Both teams came out aggressively, with Sribhumi FC testing Odisha FC early on. In the 13th minute, goalkeeper Shreya Hooda made a crucial flying save to deny a powerful goal-bound shot from distance.
The girls broke the deadlock in the 40th minute. Kajol delivered a precise through ball to Neha on the left flank. Her shot was saved by Sribhumi keeper Aditi, but Jennifer was quick to pounce on the rebound and slot the ball into the net.
The second half saw more action as Odisha continued to press. In the 54th minute, Kajol provided another key through ball, this time to Jennifer on the right. She put in a cross into the box which deflected off a SBFC defender, but the Kalinga Warriors couldn't capitalize on the chance. A few minutes later, Jennifer floated in a cross for Lynda, whose header was expertly saved by Aditi.
Sribhumi FC found an equalizer in the 77th minute through Queenable, who netted the goal to make it 1-1. However, Odisha FC responded with increased intensity. In the 81st minute, Neha delivered a perfect cross from a tight angle and Lynda was at the far post to slot the ball and restore Odisha's lead.
Odisha had a chance to extend their lead late in the match when Aishwarya fired a shot from the edge of the box, but Aditi was there to make the save.
With this win, Odisha FC moved up to second in the league standings with 10 points. They will now travel to Bengaluru to face Kickstart FC at the Bengaluru Football Stadium in their next outing on 7th February.
