Experienced winger joins Odisha FC Women for the upcoming season.

Odisha FC has completed the signing of Odia forward Satyabati Khadia. The quickfire winger will represent the Juggernauts for the coming season.

Born to a humble family in Jharsuguda, Satya was interested in athletics until her High School days, when a cousin suggested that she play football instead to her father. Satya’s father was a footballer but had stopped playing due to injury. She had his support initially when her cousin ensured she began to play football, even when she was keener on pursuing athletics. However, when she quickly developed a liking for the game, that parental support became less forthcoming.

Satya quietly began to play regularly in her local club, Jharsuguda Women’s Football team under coach Mangal Oram, but increasing parental pressure to stop from being found out made her drop out of football first, and dwindling family conditions moved her to quit her studies as well after her Matriculation exams.

Soon after though, Satya found the football worm again and began to play in one-day tournaments in neighboring towns, sometimes traveling overnight to play in day tournaments in Jharkhand. She finally got noticed to be invited to attend Nita Football Academy in 2017. She played for Rising Student Club in the OWL and her first Senior Nationals in 2018. She represented Bangalore United in the Punjab edition of the Indian Women’s League in 2019 before the pandemic hit, and later was part of the high-performing Odisha state team in the 2021 Senior Nationals. Satya won the Odisha Women’s League with Odisha Police, before representing Sports Odisha in the 2022 Indian Women’s League.

Coach Crispin Chettri was delighted to have Satyabati join OFC Women, saying:

Satya is a fighter; she has speed, strength, and a warrior spirit. There are still some aspects we will work on to bring the best out of her but which will come if she trains and plays with us throughout the season. We are very happy to have her with us at Odisha FC and wish her a successful season.

We would like to welcome Satyabati to the club and wish her all the best for the season.
