Odisha FC Held to a Stalemate by Mumbai City FC in a Goalless Encounter at the Kalinga Stadium

Odisha FC and Mumbai City FC played out a goalless draw in an engaging Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 clash at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, on Thursday. Despite a spirited performance from both teams, the result left much to be desired for either side as they failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

The match began with Odisha FC leveraging the backing of their home crowd, eager to secure a third consecutive win. Diego Mauricio set the tone early with a stunning long-range effort that narrowly missed the target, sailing just over the crossbar. The hosts continued to probe, but Mumbai City's defense, led by goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa, stood firm.

Mumbai City’s Nikolaos Karelis responded with a long-range strike, forcing Amrinder Singh into a full-stretch save to push the ball out for a corner. Shortly after, Mauricio orchestrated another thrilling opportunity, cutting in from the right and evading defenders, but his shot found the side netting.

The first half ended on a frustrating note, with both teams unable to break the deadlock amidst a series of midfield battles and missed chances.

The second half saw Mumbai City come out with renewed intensity. Their early pressure nearly resulted in a goal, but Odisha’s defense, marshaled by Amrinder, held strong. A pivotal moment came when Jeremy Manzorro played an exquisite through ball to Jayesh Rane, whose effort was thwarted by a brilliant reflex save from Amrinder, keeping the scoreline intact.

As the game progressed, the woodwork played its part in denying both teams. Mumbai’s Lallianzuala Chhangte saw his powerful attempt ricochet off the crossbar, while Diego Mauricio’s strike for Odisha FC rattled the left post. Amrinder Singh delivered another crucial save in the dying moments, palming Chhangte’s effort onto the upright to ensure the game ended without a winner.

Odisha FC will now shift focus to their next challenge, an away clash against East Bengal FC on December 12, 2024, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM.
