Odisha FC’s young sensation Moirangthem Thoiba Singh is all set for the new season of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL). The 18-year-old Manipur lad made his debut for the Club last season and in this chat with the OFC Media Team, he has shared about his journey and much more. Here are the excerpts:

Love for football

Thoiba:
I didn’t have a football when I had started developing an interest in football during my childhood days. One day I went to one of the schools near my village on a Sunday. A football camp was going on with some children playing the game. The very next day, I decided to join the camp the next day and started my proper football training.

Childhood role model

Thoiba:
When I was a kid, I loved to watch Cristiano Ronaldo a lot. That time he was in his top form. His speed, his free-kick, his skill; I was crazy for him. It was really wonderful watching him play and always wanted to become like him. Because of him, I started my football career as a striker.

Biggest inspiration

Thoiba:
My dad – Moirangthem Hemat Singh is the biggest inspiration in my life. He was a good athlete and took retirement because of his knee injury. He used to take me with him whenever he went to practice. He gives me advice on my diet and all. Now he is a teacher but he also goes to the paddy fields for farming and all. He handles everything in our family. He is my biggest biggest inspiration.

Other Sports he follows

Thoiba:
I used to follow cricket but these days, I watch almost all games wherever India plays. I get something different to watch and learn from other sports. Every sport is unique on its own.

Aim and aspirations

Thoiba:
The target is to get selected for the national team and be there. I want to be a regular in the starting XI and represent my country. Now, my main focus is to lift the Hero ISL trophy with Odisha FC.

The biggest moment of his career so far

Thoiba:
Scoring a goal in the AFC Cup against Nepal’s Manang Marshyangdi and becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the tournament. The other one was when the Indian National Team qualified for the final round of the AFC U-15 Championship. These two are the biggest moments of my career so far.
